Improv Connection

A Non-Profit Organization

Our
Story

A group of incarcerated men in an active improvisation scene, using their bodies.

"For the first time in my life,
I can be me."

"I have to put on a mask on in order to survive in here. It's not easy. But being in this class, for the first time in my life, I don't have to pretend to be someone else. I can be me."

J.M., Life without Parole, Avenal State Prison

BY THE NUMBERS

Stuart – Avenal State Prison

"I feel liberated. I gradually freed my mind from the losses of my past and the fears of my future so I can live in this moment."

Our Mission

The Improv Connection empowers incarcerated men to rediscover their humanity through comedy improv, transforming fear into trust, isolation into connection, and brokenness into healing and hope beyond prison.

Improv Connection is proud to partner with California State Prisons to give the magic of improv.

Together, we can reduce recidivism through rehabilitative transformation in the arts.

Why We Exist

Prison teaches invisibility.

Improv restores light.

Through laughter and trust, incarcerated men reconnect with who they are and who they can become. They find courage, empathy, and hope.

They remember what it feels like to be human again.
